If you're looking for your next swordwielding fantasy extraordinaire, The Tattered Banner is an excellent option. The book opens up with Soren, who is dreaming of becoming a professional sword fighter one day. Unfortunately being a child of the streets means he doesn't exactly have time to hone the craft. But when a rich man sees him fight and offers to take him in as his protegé, his life changes for the better. Soren gets sent to Ostenheim's Academy of Swordmanship, where he trains in the art of swordfighting, and his rare talent develops. 

Unfortunately this also means he puts himself at harm's risk, and becomes a pawn in a game of intrigue and treachery. Not just his dreams are at stake, but his life as well. 

The writing here was superb, and the characters very engaging. I hope there's a sequel, set in the same fantasy world. Mr. Hamilton shows excellent writing skills and character development, and I can't wait to read more.
