Release Blitz Anathema

About the Book

Title: Anathema
 Author: Yoshiyuki Ly
Genre: Historical Fantasy Romance

Prepared to die for her country, Solaire Copeland is drafted to the Drakengard knighthood at twenty-two years old, and vows to stop running away from the one she loves. Guarding over her dark secrets in shame, she nevertheless takes a leap of faith and entrusts herself to her intelligent equal in Stella Azrith, an alluring, measured, and methodical young woman of magic. Solaire elevates her love for Stella in romantic showmanship and subservience, even as the two of them struggle to understand one another through their temperamental differences. Anathema is a historical fantasy romance that tells the tale of Solaire and Stella’s courtly relationship in their youth, as they grow into their characters—Archangel Vespair and Mistress Fury—from The Scorpion’s Empress, Venus and Lysander, and Black Waltz as a prequel to the existing trilogy.   Desperate to keep Solaire at home, Stella conspires to prevent her from getting sent off to fight in an unjust war for their country, the Monomyth of Astora. In her scheming at the highest levels of government, she forms an unstable alliance with Fey Murasaki, the wicked and wily ambassador from Astora’s closest foreign ally. Stella and Fey’s influence across the land slithers in the darkness while Solaire’s knightly powers shine to alarming levels in the light, causing them to become targets—for both good and ill—of the nation’s most powerful leaders. Through intensifying mortal perils, Solaire’s love for Stella deepens to maddening levels, restrained only by her distinct sense that her free will erodes more each time she kneels in fulfilling servitude.   Independent streaks contradict religiosity in service of loving a woman with a will so strong—Solaire bears both the light and the dark of enlightened empathy and burning hatred, with her secrets fueling her rise as the strongest knight of an age.

With her father’s Dublin theater in ruins and her sister’s illness growing worse, she’s the only person who can save her family from the gutter. Too poor to marry, he hides his real identity until an accident reveals the truth, and what started as a mild flirtation turns to a complex game of secrets, passion, and desire.
Thrown together by circumstance, Audrey and Joseph find themselves in a tense alliance as they try to crawl their way up from their humble beginnings and into the highest echelons of the ton. Book Promo Scent of the Past

About the Book

Title: Scent of the Past
Author: Erin Marie Bernardo
Genre: Historical Fiction
Scent of the Past by Erin Marie Bernardo
A secret diary. A forgotten past. Another time.

When people think of time travel, they think of the clichéd manufactured kind. Of giant electronic machines with flashing lights and buttons calibrated to shoot you into the past with one press. But it doesn’t work that way. You need a reason, a connection, and—most important—a link. But you can’t choose when and why you go. That would be too easy, and we’d all be snapping our fingers in hopes of seeing lost treasures of yesteryear. It must choose you.
Close cousins Addison and Elissa live in present day New York City and lead somewhat ordinary lives. When uncertain circumstances surrounding a set of antique perfume bottles sends them back to eighteenth-century France, they must uncover the truth behind their travel.
Disaster strikes when Addison finds herself in a nearly identical situation to a mishap she experienced in the present—the witnessing of a murder and release of a secret. Only this time the truth could destroy the entire French monarchy. With Addison’s head on the line, the young women search for answers before Addison suffers her unlucky fate twice. It is only when they discover the haunting connections to life in the present, that they understand why they both were sent, and why a repeating past…may not always be such a bad thing.

What can be said of Hell, when at its most quiet, I was most terrified? The explosions that had rocked every fiber of my being and made my bones feel like they could simply shatter like tempered glass still resonated.
I looked over at the wounded, wondering if I had the same haunted look in my eyes, and thought I probably did. In this war, no one leaves. No one goes home...and everyone is a casualty of war.

Promo Post Twain's End

About the Book

TwainsEndPBTitle: Twain’s End
Author: Lynn Cullen
Genre: Historical
Now in paperback for the first time from the national bestselling author of Mrs. Poe, Lynn Cullen, comes TWAIN’S END (Gallery Books; June 7, 2016; Trade Paperback; $16.00), a fictional imagining of America’s iconic writer Mark Twain and the woman who knew him too well.
In March of 1909, Mark Twain cheerfully blessed the wedding of his private secretary, Isabel V. Lyon, and his business manager, Ralph Ashcroft. One month later, he fired both, wrote a ferocious 429-page rant about the pair, and then—with his daughter, Clara Clemens—slandered Isabel in the newspapers, erasing her nearly seven years of devoted service to their family.
In TWAIN’S END, Lynn Cullen “cleverly spins a mysterious, dark, tale” (Booklist) about the tangled relationship between Twain and Lyon. A silenced woman, Isabel’s loyal service and innocence were not enough to combat the slander, and she has gone down in history as the villainess who swindled Twain in his final years. She never rebutted Twain’s claims, never spoke badly of the man she called “The King,” and kept her silence until she died in 1958. How did Lyon go from being the beloved secretary who ran Twain’s life to a woman he was determined to destroy? TWAIN’S END explains.

Author Bio

Lynn Cullen lives in Atlanta surrounded by her large family, and like Mark Twain, enjoys being bossed around by cats. Follow Lynn Cullen on Facebook or visit www.lynncullen.com.

Book Excerpt No Quarter

Book Excerpt

The ship collided against the rocks of Folly Bay. The hull shattered, releasing a loud groan, akin to a wounded animal in the throes of a death blow. Frantic passengers spilled onto the main deck from the hold. They climbed over and pushed one another, until they were finally tossed side to side and slammed over the edge of the ship.
Atia was pelted by flying debris. Her eyes briefly opened to behold a mountain of water as it rolled upon them. There was no air, only the rushing garble of the tide. Water relentlessly filled her ears and nose. Her lips recoiled into her mouth and her teeth clamped upon them. The water receded and she gasped, simultaneously sucking in air and spewing brine.
The rail began to buckle. Before her was a dizzying display of lightning. A short distance away, the rocks flickered and shined. Someone scrambled upon them. She recognized her ma’s long hair. The ship’s bow, only a few feet away, approached fast. With a potent hit, the front of the ship broke apart and her ma was crushed beneath it. Passengers flew mid-air, some landing in the water, others splitting apart on the rocks.
Atia opened her mouth to scream, but nothing came out. The rail broke loose and she was propelled forward, catching a ride along the spindrift to the stony beach. She landed heavily, her arms still gripped around the broken barrier. The scream finally escaped her throat and she belted it across the landscape. After unhooking her arms, she rose slowly, vomiting mouthfuls of salt water.
Behind her, the ship continued to splinter under the pounding waves. Flames erupted from the hatches of the hold. Unfortunate souls hurled themselves off the vessel to extinguish their clothes, only to be caught in the grinding undertow of the current.

Book Excerpt from The Daughters Lem

Title: The Daughters Lem
Author: Nila Aamoth
Genre: Biographical / Memoir / Historical
The Daughters of Lem witnessed and survived the tragic event that forever transformed them. Orphaned, frightened, fiercely independent, the four sisters fought defiantly to raise themselves. But Lucille, Louise, and Nell Rose could not defeat the notion of a Lem bad seed; they chose to remain childless. Only Dorothy sought to achieve what she perceived to be a “normal” life as a wife and mother. In the process, she discovered her power as an independent woman. Her own three offspring became a new generation of the Daughters of Lem, and fortunate participants in their mother’s improbably joyful journey.

This story just about broke my heart. The Daughters Lem went through a tragic event, and ever since, they believed they had a 'bad seed', that something was wrong with their famly.  All except for Dorothy, who was determined to have a normal life. The book follows the Daughters Lem as they grow up and turn from children into adults, and how the legacy continues. Heart-breaking and heart-warming too, about family love, hardship, and never giving up.

Book Excerpt from Slumber

Book Excerpt

Sebastian paused outside their cabin, his fingers curled around the door handle. Leaning his forehead against the rough wood, he exhaled. You can do it, man. You can ignore her.

For a week, they’d shared a cabin, and for a week, he’d struggled to resist temptation incarnate. Thalia brushing her hair. The rustle of cloth as Thalia changed clothing behind the screen. The even sound of her breath as she slept. A man could only endure so much, and he was rapidly approaching his breaking point.

This evening he’d attended the captain’s dinner in a vain effort to garner much-needed distance, but all he’d done was think of her. What she’d been doing while he pushed his first course about his plate. If she would’ve enjoyed the intricately prepared second course. If she was at her bath during the dessert course, soaping the golden skin of her arms, dragging the washcloth over her breasts, pushing it between her legs over and over and over….

Breath exploding, he pressed his forehead harder against the door. Gods, he had to stop this. She was his princess. He couldn’t feel this lust for her. Nothing could come of it, and he would only make for himself a frustrated bed should he continue. It didn’t matter that she’d kissed him earlier that day, that maybe she wanted him as he wanted her. It didn’t matter.

Straightening, he turned the handle decisively and strode into the room, arranging a smile that he knew would dazzle upon his face. He faltered as soon as he saw her, the smile frozen.

Thalia sprawled casually on the bed, her back propped by pillows she’d gathered from her sleeping area and the one he’d made on the pallet on the floor, her knee bent as she read a book she’d appropriated from somewhere. Her skirt was rucked up about her knees, her bodice half undone in deference to the warm night air, and she twined a piece of hair about her finger, her lip caught between her teeth.

All-too-familiar lust rushed through him as she looked up, her frown of concentration lighting to a smile when she saw it was him. He wanted to taste the damp skin of her throat, wanted to take the book from her hands and cover her mouth with his.

Thalia has always known she must return to the capital to prepare for the throne. Book Review and Giveaway Charter to Redemption

Title: Charter to Redemption
Author: D.J. Blackmore
Genre: Historical Romance
BuyAmazon

At the close of 1821, the penal colony of Newcastle looks to be every bit as black as it’s painted. Emma Colchester charters a ride to Australia with a promise of marriage to a man she has never met. But appearances aren’t always as they seem. And with a commitment unavoidable Emma learns that shackles are not always forged from iron.
Tobias Freeman longs for redemption and hope. After a rough journey to New South Wales, Tobias learns the rations, the regulations, and the reprisal.
But neither Emma nor Tobias expect the repercussions.

"Charter to Redemption" is an inspiring romance story about Emma Colchester, who is forced to marry a man she doesn't know in an arranged marriage. Saved from drowning by handsome and charming Tobias, she heads out to meet her soon-to-be husband for the first time. But when she realizes she's been misled, and things have been kept a secret for her, she longs for a friend in this brand new world, and she might find that in Tobias.

The writing is gorgeous, and the characters are lively and intriguing. I adored Emma, who felt bound by duty when others would've long given up, who was driven forth by an almost otherworldly determination even when all odds were against her. Tobias was a great character as well, complex and engaging, struggling with his feelings for Emma every step of the way.

A great mix of historical fiction and romance.
